The map maker enables users to make maps by combining available layers (mashup) as well as drawing shapes and adding icons and text. There is no need for mapping and GIS knowledge or any specialized software. Resulting maps can be saved as an image or printed to pdf.
There is a vast amount of open data from federal, state/provincial as well as municipal governments. For each region (or province), relevant agricultural related, environmental and administrative data can be made available for users to overlay on map. The data is located in the respective government database and it is commonly made available through WMS (Web Map Service) in order to be overlayed on the map. Naturally the availability of the data is dependent on the provider's (e.g. government's) data servers.
Each layer is visible within a certain zoom range. If you choose a layer and it is not visible on the map, you will have to change the map's zoom level (zoom in/out) until the layer becomes visible.
